Katherine,Eva and Edda Home Visit

On Friday we received an invitation to visit an Indian family.  In my group we there was Eva, Edda and myself (Katherine). We got dressed up nicely and travelled to their home by rickshaw! It took us about 20 minutes to get  there and once we had arrived we had to walk up all the way up to the 6th level because we couldn’t figure out how to use the lift. About 10 minutes later we made it up and were warmly welcomed into their home. We talked about their family and jobs and what they like doing. Some of us bought a  picture of our family to show them and talked about our hobbies and what our school is like; the conversation kept going and we had such fun!

We were all starting to get hungry so Smita (the lady who was hosting us) started to make dinner. The dinner was very nice but some of it I found too spicy 😂 They didn’t eat with us as they eat after 9:00 but the dad decided to join us. We ate with our hands which was … different but we embraced it and it was a new experience. After eating a very lovely dinner we talked more and we all gave them a present that they could have from London and we were all surprised when they also gave us one! They  gave us a candle holder with a candle inside of it. Smita got us a rickshaw  (this time we took the lift down😂) and we were all exhausted from an incredible night.

Wadi Challenge

Today’s blog is written by different people as all groups had slightly different experiences, enjoy ! Today was the first whole day at Sangam, breakfast started at 8:30 but before that we had the Flag ceremony led by Madeleine, Rebecca and Alice. After having our delicious breakfast we went to get ready to start the Wadi Challenge (written by the staff here). We all got into groups and set out to start our challenges. We got a sheet of paper with lots of questions and challenges, once we had completed it we would tick it off and start a new one.We spent all morning walking around trying new sweets and seeing how people lived their lives. We also went into supermarkets and purchased clothes and food! My group (Katherine, Evie, Helen, Elizabeth and Lucie) decided to cross the road to get the the hot chip shop but there was a slight problem… we couldn’t cross the road 😂 we had to go on a bridge to cross. Friends who are blessed together stay together...

This morning started bright and early for most of us who enjoyed BBQ chicken and chocolate croissants for breakfast.  However, not all of us set our alarms so we only had a few minutes to get dressed, packed and eat breakfast. Soon enough, we embarked on our journey to Sangam it was a long haul but we saw so much including paddy fields, slums, temples, statues and much more. A few hours later we soon arrived at Sangam. WOW! 😍It’s amazing and so much more than we expected. The volunteers welcomed us in, wearing their beautiful purple uniforms. Our rooms are great but the pool outside them is even better; we’ll be in there in the morning, noon, night, basically whenever we can! We just couldn’t resist cooling our feet! Stop. Noodle Time ! After we unpacked and settled in, we had our very first flag ceremony, I (Hannah) and Katherine we’re even lucky enough to carry the USA and Canadian flags, with other flags from countries to represent everyone staying in Sangam 🇬🇧🇮...

Renewing our Promise in Lahemaa National Park, Estonia In 2019, eighteen members of 1st Chislehurst Guides and 1st Chislehurst 'Blizzard' Rangers are going on the adventure of a lifetime to India.  India is home to one of the WAGGGS World Centres, Sangam.  There are 5 World Centres - Pax Lodge in London, Our Chalet in Switzerland, Our Cabana in Mexico, Kusafiri which moves around Africa (read this for an explanation) and Sangam in India. We are an internationally-focussed group, having been on several European trips over the past five years - young members have variously met with local Guides in Luxembourg , enjoyed a day-trip to Germany; we've searched for the Northern Lights in Iceland and been whale-watching; young members have made their Girlguiding promise in Lake Bled in Slovenia , or up a tower in the middle of Lahemaa National Park in Estonia ; we've met with Estonian Girl Guides in Tallinn, we've danced our way to Helsinki on a ferry, on a day-...
